29 CFR1926.55(a): Employees were exposed to material(s) at concentrations above those specified in the Threshold Limit Values of Airborne Contaminants for 1970 of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. a) Jobsite: On or about November 20, 2023, employees where exposed to carbon monoxide at concentrations in excess of the 8 hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) of 50 parts per million (ppm). An employee operating a hand-held saw with an internal combustion engine within a partially enclosed space, was transported to a local hospital via ambulance following complaint of severe headache and difficulty breathing. The employee had been exposed to carbon monoxide at an 8-hour TWA of 67.9 parts per million (ppm). The exposure concentration was derived by entering the employee's carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) concentration and other site-specific data into the Coburn-Forster-Kane equation.
