TWO CONTRACTORS INJURED AFTER REMOVING SHELF BRACKETS
Investigation abstract
Two contractors were injured after they removed the bottom support bracket used to hold book shelves in place. The contractors were assigned the task of removin g some book shelves on a second floor university library in preparation of insta lling new carpet. To remove the book shelves, they had to remove the lower suppo rt shelf bracket. Once the brackets were removed, the bookshelves became unstabl e and ultimately collapsed. The two contractors were trapped underneath the rubb le. One had broken ribs and the other had compressed fracture of the lower back.
