FINGERS CRUSHED BY POWER PRESS
Investigation abstract
A machine operator was machining 0.625-in. diameter C/89 retaining rings on a tw d fingers were caught between the dies and crushed. He was hospitalized. o-ton Farrel No. 2 mechanical power press. The employee used two foot pedals, on e to actuate the press and the other to actuate compressed air. The upper die wa s 2.25 in. by 1 in. and the lower die was 3 in. by 2.25 in. The distance between the dies was one in. The rings were hand fed into position and actuated between the dies. During a batch process, one of the rings rolled out of the point of a ctuation. The employee attempted to push the ring back into proper position by u sing his left hand to flick the ring back to the point of actuation.
