Event description

EMPLOYEE KILLED WHEN STRUCK BY A TREE

Investigation abstract

At 10:10 a.m. on September 15, 1986, Employee #1 felled a Douglas fir tree appro ximately 150 feet in length and 37 inches in diameter. As the tree was falling i t brushed a standing fir tree located slightly up the hill, approximately 35 fee t away. Upon being brushed by the falling tree, the standing tree snapped at abo ut mid section and the top half of the tree fell on Employee #1 as he was trying to get out of the way. Employee #1 died of traumatic injuries to the chest.
