Event description

ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE

Investigation abstract

A self-employed welder was installing a cyclone dust collector at a tire recappi ng plant. The dust collector contacted a 7200-volt overhead power line. The weld er, who was touching the dust collector at the time, received an electric shock and burns to his arms, back, stomach, and legs. He was hospitalized, and his rig ht hand and left arm were amputated as a result of his injuries.
