FALLING STEEL BEAM STRUCK AND INJURED TWO EMPLOYEES
Investigation abstract
EMPLOYEES #1 AND #2 WERE WORKING ON THE FLOOR OF A BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION, O WORK TOO FAST. THE BEAM FELL ABOUT 8 FEET. FABRICATING SIDE WALL FRAMING. EARLIER, THEY HAD ASSISTED IN LIFTING A STEEL BEA M, 6 INCHES WIDE BY 10 INCHES HIGH BY 20 FEET LONG, OVERHEAD ONTO LOLLY COLUMNS. A THIRD EMPLOYEE BEGAN BRINGING UP JOISTS, 2 INCHES BY 10 INCHES BY 12 FEET LON G, AND LEANING THEM AGAINST THE BEAM. AFTER THE FIFTEENTH BOARD WAS PLACED IN TH IS POSITION, THE BEAM FELL. BOTH EMPLOYEES WERE STRUCK, ALTHOUGH NOT DIRECTLY. E MPLOYEE #1 SUFFERED A BRUISE ON HIS LOWER RIGHT BACK AND A STRAINED ARM. EMPLOYE E #2 SUSTAINED A MUSCLE STRAIN TO HIS LEFT ARM AND BACK. THE THIRD EMPLOYEE HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY INSTRUCTED IN HOW TO STACK THE JOISTS, AND HE WAS ATTEMPTING T
