Event description

Employee killed when crushed by crane boom

Investigation abstract

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 1989, Employee #1 was performing v arious repairs on a 1961 Link-Belt crawler crane. He was leaning into the drum a rea where he was grinding rough places when his right foot accidentally hit the boom lever, causing it to engage and fall. He was pinned between the boom and ca b and crushed to death.
