EMPLOYEE STRUCK BY FALLING TREE
Investigation abstract
ON OCTOBER 6, 1986, AT APPROXIMATELY 1:45 PM, EMPLOYEE #1 WAS USING A HUSQUAVARN A 181 CHAIN SAW TO FELL AN OAK TREE WHICH WAS 14 INCHES IN DIAMETER. ABOUT FIVE FEET AWAY, THERE WAS A LODGED TREE TOP CAUGHT IN ANOTHER OAK TREE. THE OAK TREE THAT WAS FELLED BUMPED AND FREED THE LODGED TREE TOP. THIS TREE TOP FELL AND BLO CKED THE RETREAT OF EMPLOYEE #1. AS A RESULT, HE WAS STRUCK BY THE TREE HE FELLE D. EMPLOYEE #1 WAS PINNED ACROSS HIS BACK. HE RECEIVED MULTIPLE SERIOUS INJURIES AND DIED THE FOLLOWING DAY.
