Employee killed in fall to concrete

Investigation abstract

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on May 27, 1987, Employee #1 was preparing to cut a b olt on an angle iron brace that attached a building cove outside strut to a roof purlin at the building frame. He was standing spread-eagled, straddling the 4 f t between the cove strut and roof purlin. When he cut the bolt free, the cove st rut moved out 8 ft, and he fell 20 ft to a concrete slab on the ground. Employee #1 sustained a broken neck and died three months after his fall.
