Event description

ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU BOOM

Investigation abstract

Three employees were setting up a flat bed truck with a well drilling rig to rem ove a submerged water well pump. It was raining, and the ground was wet and mudd y. One of the employees was holding a cable to the top drum, and a second employ ee was holding the cable to the bottom drum. The third employee was operating th e controller at the rear of the truck to raise the mast. The first two employees were also at the rear of the truck, keeping the cables from tangling on their d rums. As the third employee raised the mast, it contacted a 614-kilovolt overhea d power line. The two employees holding the cables received electric shocks. One of them was electrocuted.
