Investigation abstract
On March 24, 1988, Employee #1 was part of a crew working in a burned-out sectio n of National Forest, loading logs onto trucks for transport to a mill. At appro ximately 1:30 p.m., the crew started back to work following a break. Employee #1 and the two coworkers were downhill of the yarder, attaching chokers to logs th at had been previously cut by another employer. Following normal operating proce dures, all signals were given and the yarder operator tightened the haul rope to pull two attached logs. The wire rope line struck a burned-out log attached to a stump (a blown-over tree that had been burnt), disturbing the stump. The burne d-out log then rolled downhill, striking and killing Employee #1.
