Event description
Employee burned when trapped between burner and filters
Investigation abstract
At approximately 9:57 a.m. on August 9, 1988, Employee #1 was repairing sheet me tal inside the burner section of an air handling system on a roof. He failed to turn off the natural gas and electricity and when a thermostat inside the buildi ng activated the heat, the burner ignited, trapping Employee #1 between the burn er and filters. Employee used a two-way radio to call for help. He was rescued s hortly thereafter. Employee #1 suffered 2nd- and 3rd-degree burns to 24 percent of his body.
