FLAMMABLE GAS EXPLOSION

Investigation abstract

WHEN CHARGING #2 FURNACE WITH SCRAP IRON AND OLD CASTING AN EXPLOSION OCCURRED. THE EXPLOSION MAY HAVE HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF THE COLLECTION OF FLAMMABLE GAS U NDER THE ROOF. IT ROSE TO THE CEILING FROM AN OPEN BUNGHOLE IN A DRUM OF PAINT P RIMER, ACCORDING TO THE BALTIMORE CITY FIRE INVESTIGATION UNIT. THE CONDITION IS CAUSED BY WHAT IS CALLED A FLASHOVER FROM THE FURNACE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.
