ELECTRIC SHOCK - CONTACT WITH OVERHEAD LINE THRU BOOM

Investigation abstract

A CONCRETE PUMPER TRUCK CONCRETE PLACEMENT FIRM WAS DELIVERING CONCRETE TO A DRA INAGE DITCH. THE CONCRETE TRUCK OPERATOR WAS USING THE TRUCK'S BOOM EXTENDED OVE R A ROAD TO POUR THE CONCRETE. TWO EMPLOYEES OF A DIFFERENT CONCRETE COMPANY WER E HANDLING THE HOSE AT THE END OF THE BOOM TO DIRECT THE PLACEMENT OF THE CONCRE TE. THE BOOM CONTACTED A 7620-VOLT OVERHEAD POWER LINE. THE TWO EMPLOYEES HOLDIN G THE HOSE RECEIVED ELECTRIC SHOCKS. ONE OF THEM WAS ELECTROCUTED; THE OTHER REC EIVED SEVERE BURNS AND WAS HOSPITALIZED IN CRITICAL CONDITION.
