Employee injured when struck on head by falling dead tree
Investigation abstract
Employee #1 and the company vice president were attempting to fall a 7 in. diame ter tree that was in the path of a road widening project the company was perform ing. The vice president cut the tree with a chain saw, while Employee #1 positio ned himself north of the tree to watch it as it fell. The employees were attempt ing to fall the tree parallel to the existing road. However, the tree fell 90 de grees off target causing an 18 in. diameter dead tree, supported by a limb or br anch of the 7 in. tree, to fall and strike Employee #1 on the head. He was hospi talized. The employees were unaware of the dead tree.
