STRUCK IN CHEST BY FLYING PIECE OF WOOD

Investigation abstract

EMPLOYEE #1 WAS OPERATING A COMBINATION EDGER/GANG SAW AT THE INFEED SIDE. A PIE CE OF WOOD BECAME JAMMED IN THE SAWS. THE OUTFEED OPERATOR TRIED TO DISLODGE THE JAM, USING A 14 FOOT LONG STICK. THE PIECE OF WOOD FLEW UP AND LIFTED THE ANTIK ICKBACK FINGERS. THIS PERMITTED THE SAWS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE WOOD PIECE, HU RLING IT AT EMPLOYEE #1. HE WAS STRUCK IN THE CHEST AND KILLED. THE SAWS WERE EQ UIPPED WITH SPREADERS, ANTI-KICKBACK FINGERS AND A COVER GUARD.
