Employee with COVID-19 infection dies
Investigation abstract
An employee was working as a correctional officer for a firm that housed people corrections officer in a detention area for detainees who were not COVID-19 positive. He was required to wear an N95 respirator while working. He had declined to be vaccinated against COVID-19. DOSH would not be issuing any accident-related citations. who had crossed the border from Mexico into the United States. The employer operated a detention facility in which were housed detainees from ICE, US Marshalls, and other agencies. At approximately 2:00 p.m. on April 23, 2021, the employee felt ill and left work. On April 28, 2021, the employee was hospitalized for treatment for COVID-19. At 7:27 p.m. on May 10, 2021, he died due to the infection. At 8:11 p.m. on May 11, 2021, the employer notified DOSH that the employee had died. This did not meet the reporting requirements.
