Event description

Employee lacerates two fingers while cutting meat with bands

Investigation abstract

At 2:00 p.m. on May 23, 2021, an employee working as a butcher for a grocery store was cutting steaks using a vertical bandsaw. The employee was using a piece of meat in lieu of a push stuck to cut a 1-inch thick bone-in steak into two 1/2-inch thick pieces. The employee pushed the steak along the gauge plate and through the bandsaw blade. After passing through the bone, the blade caught the meat and pulled the employee's right hand into the sawblade. The employee received medical treatment without hospitalization for an avulsion to his ring finger and a laceration to his middle finger.
