Event description

Employee crushes four fingers while bending metal with press

Investigation abstract

At 8:15 a.m. on July 10, 2021, an employee working as a machine operator for a farm machinery and equipment manufacturer was entering product into a brake press for bending. The employee engaged the machine with the foot pedal and failed to remove his right hand from the point of operation. The employee crushed his index, middle, and ring fingers down to the second joint and a crushed pinky fingertip. The employer transported the employee to the hospital, where he was admitted for surgery on July 10, 2021, and released the next day on July 11, 2021. On July 12, 2021, the employee was scheduled to meet with a hand specialist to determine if the ring finger can be saved.
