Event description

Employee with COVID-19 infection dies

Investigation abstract

An employee was working for a firm that manufactured tortillas. He was a Later that same day, the employer contacted the Division to report the hospitalization and death of the employee from COVID-19. The company had learned of the death from the employee's next of kin on August 9, 2021. The employee had not taken a vacation in the previous month. It was not known if anyone else at work had contracted COVID-19. The employee's wife contracted COVID-19 after the employee did. supervisor at the facility. He operated a roasting or baking machine. He had been off from work for approximately ten days in July to travel to Los Angeles for a death in the family death. After he returned, the last day he worked was July 27, 2021. He started his shift at 4:30 a.m., and he went home sick at 10:00 a.m. He tested positive for COVID-19 on August 2, 2021. He was hospitalized on August 6, 2021. He died at the at hospital on August 8, 2021. On August 9, 2021, the Division was contacted by the employee's next of kin. On August 10, 2021, the Division went to the site and opened an investigation with the employer.
