Employee amputates index finger and lacerates thumb and midd

Investigation abstract

At 8:45 a.m. on August 14, 2021, Employee #1 was trimming casting gates and risers using a Tannewitz Vertical Band Saw, Model GV. While sliding the casting into the saw blade access hole, the casting slipped. As the employee attempted to stabilize it, his fingers made contact with the blade. This resulted in the amputation of the index finger at the second knuckle, as well as a laceration to the thumb and middle finger. The employee was treated without hospitalization.
