Employee with COVID-19 infection dies
Investigation abstract
An employee had been working as a Special Education Teacher at an elementary which resulted in heart and lung failure. Her death has been attributed to a workplace exposure. The employer did not have an effective COVID-19 Prevention Program in place. school. The employee had been identified as a close contact with a student who tested positive for COVID-19. The employee last worked on Monday, August 16, 2021. On August 19, 2021, the employee called out from work due to not feeling well. On August 19, 2021, the employee was tested and received a positive result on August 24, 2021. The employer tried to contact the employee on a Monday or Tuesday when she not return to work and her spouse told the employer that she was hospitalized due to COVID-19 related pneumonia. At 8:00 a.m. on August 31, 2021, the employee died due to complications arising from COVID-19 pneumonia
