Employee with COVID-19 infection dies
Investigation abstract
An employee was working as a social worker at an outpatient mental health and equipment, tables, and food preparation areas. The last day she worked was August 6, 2021. On the following day, she began exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, and she was not feeling well. On August 10, she was tested for COVID-19. She was hospitalized that same day. By August 30, she was on a ventilator. At 6:45 p.m. on September 13, 2021, the employee died. On the following day, the employee's daughter notified the employer of both her mother's hospitalization and her mother's death. The employer notified Cal/OSHA that same day. The work site was being tested weekly per DPH as a proactive approach. substance abuse center. She was a lead monitor at the employer's site, a residential substance abuse rehabilitation facility. Approximately fifty percent of her time was spent in the kitchen and the monitor room. The monitor room was a small room consisting of computer monitors. The monitors were fed by cameras throughout the facility. The remaining fifty percent of her tasks involved shopping for food, making menus, preparing charts for chores lists, visiting residents' rooms to make counts, and supervising residents to ensure they were doing their jobs. She also cleaned and sanitized high-touch areas and kitchen
