Employee is cleaning chicken feeder while machine is running
Investigation abstract
At 7:00 a.m. on July 30, 2021, Employee #1, a 25-year-old female, was cleaning a and lack of guarding on the machine. Big Dutchman Male Chain Chicken feeder at Sunrise Farms, LLC in Santa Rosa, California. While the machine was running and the guard cover had come off, her loose coverall sleeves became entangled in the gears, pulling her hand into the auger system. Coworkers attempted to shut off the machine and free her hand, but EMS had to pry it out. The employee sustained a full amputation of her right pointer finger and infection from environmental contamination. She was transported to Kaiser and then CPMC Davies Hand Surgery Center for treatment. The employee was hospitalized. The accident was caused by oversized clothing
