Event description

Employee sustains pelvic fractures while bucking logs

Investigation abstract

At 7:00 a.m. on July 14, 2021, Employee #1 and a coworker were bucking felled logs on a sidehill slope. Employee #1 first bucked a 40-inch log on the uphill side, then moved approximately 12 feet downhill to a 38-inch log resting in heavy slash and branches. While bucking the downhill log, the branches shifted and dislodged the uphill log, striking Employee #1. Emergency services transported Employee #1 to the hospital, where he was admitted and treated for pelvic fractures and remained hospitalized for four days.
