Event description

Employee amputates fingertip, cuts another in folding chair

Investigation abstract

At 4:30 a.m. on June 29, 2021, an employee working for a tire recycling facility was sitting down on a aluminum folding lawn chair. The chair collapsed as soon as the employee sat down. The employee fell backwards when his middle fingers on both hands got caught between the armrest and front legs. As soon as the employee hit the floor, he felt heat in his fingertips and pulled his hands out. The employee was hospitalized to treat an amputated right middle fingertip and laceration to his left middle fingertip.
