Event description
Employee is killed when struck by falling tree
Investigation abstract
At 10:45 a.m. on August 25, 2021, an employee, the owner of the company, was coworker, who was onsite, drove him to the nearest hospital. The employee was alert during this time however at the hospital he was life-flighted to another hospital, where he died enroute. performing logging operations. The employee had cleared out a section of trees however, there was one tree that had been recently cut that was tangled in vines and did not fall. The employee continued to cut trees and was cutting a hickory tree when the saw became stuck. The employee tried to drive a wedge into the tree with a hammer to free the saw. As the employee was doing this, the tangled tree broke free from the vines and fell onto him striking him from behind. The coworker who was operating the skidder saw the tree hit the employee and ran over to him. The coworker cut the tree off the employee and he and another
