Event description

Employee falls from dumpster ladder and fractures heel

Investigation abstract

At 2:11 p.m. on August 14, 2021, Employee #1, a laborer at a recycling and waste material yard, had completed a task removing debris from the top of a dumpster box measuring 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 6 feet high. After realizing he had left his radio or cell phone on top of the dumpster, he climbed back up to retrieve it. While descending, he was not facing the ladder or holding the rungs with both hands. At approximately the second rung, he fell to the ground and sustained a fractured heel bone. Employee #1 was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
