Event description
Employee with COVID-19 infection is hospitalized
Investigation abstract
An employee was a Utility Worker II performing maintenance duties for a City p.m. with a street crew engaging in an a variety of tasks such as landscaping, underground work, pipe replacement and leak detection. On September 3, 2021, the employee was notified that he had been in close contact with a coworker who had received a COVID-19 positive test result that day. The employee was immediately sent to be tested and to quarantine. On September 5, 2021, while waiting for test results, the employee began to have COVID-19 related symptoms. On September 6, 2021, the employee received a positive test result. The employer advised the employee to continue his quarantine. At 8:00 a.m. on September 15, 2021, the employee was hospitalized for approximately 6 days. The employee and coworker had shared equipment, including headphones and other handheld devices, which Public Works agency. The agency that the employee works for is responsible for were not being sanitized between uses. The employer did not have an effective COVID-19 Prevention Program in place. the development and maintenance of the City's infrastructure to include public streets, water treatment, storm drain system, parks, and landscaping, as well as inspections of public improvements and replacement projects. The employee had been working with a coworker using a water leak detection device looking for water leaks on an underground pipeline. The employee had worked for approximately 21 years for the agency prior to testing positive for COVID-19. The employee was scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00
