Employee breaks back in fall from platform
Investigation abstract
Employee #1, a masonry laborer, was cleaning up trash on the fifth floor of the Florida Suncoast Dome, which was under construction. A crane, while taking a loa ded trash box down to the ground, struck a stack of 16 ft long scaffold planks p iled parallel to the guardrails and knocked the end of some planks through the g uardrail. The employee stepped outside the guardrails to straighten them up. He was then standing on a 28 in. wide platform with his back to the unguarded edge. As he moved along the planks, he backed off the edge and fell 58 ft. He landed on his back, breaking it.
