THREE CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYEES EXPOSED TO CARBON MONOXIDE

Investigation abstract

AT 2:30 PM ON JANUARY 20 1987, EMPLOYEES # 1, 2, AND 3 WERE SURFACE FINISHING TH E CONCRETE FLOOR OF AN APARTMENT BUILDING BASEMENT. THE CONCRETE WAS BEGINING TO HARDEN FASTER THAN HAND TROWELING COULD KEEP UP WITH, SO THE THREE EMPLOYEES SW ITCHED TO TROWELING WITH GAS-OPERATED POWER TROWELS. THE MACHINES WERE USED IN T WO ISOLATED CONFINED ROOMS WHICH WERE UNVENTILATED. THE THREE EMPLOYEES WERE OVE RCOME BY FUMES AND HAD TO LEAVE THE WORK AREA. MEDICAL TREATMENT CONSISTED OF TH E USE OF A HYPERBARIC CHAMBER AND OBSERVATION FOR 24 HOURS. THE EMPLOYEES' BLOOD COUNTS WERE 31 TO 36% (?) CO.
