Event description

Employee's finger amputated by blade

Investigation abstract

At 10:30 a.m. on December 4, 1988, Employee #1 was using an unguarded angle cutt ing section of a type 210-16 Peddinghaus Ironworker to cut a 1 1/2 in. piece of 1 ft 2 in. by 1 ft 2 in. angle stock. He was using his right hand to hold the pi ece to be cut so that it would not fall. As he pulled the operating lever with h is left hand, the cutting blade with stripper plate came down on his right index finger, amputating the tip. He was hospitalized.
