Event description

Employee burned in paint room fire

Investigation abstract

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on December 2, 1988, Employee #1 was using a cutting torch to remove an old hydraulic lift part out of the floor of the paint room w hen a spark from the torch set a lacquer paint covered sawhorse 15 ft away on fi re . Employee #1 immediately picked up the sawhorse and took it outside, but whe n the burning sawhorse went through the door, flames ignited the wall. Employee #1 then returned to put out the fire, but could not see the extinguisher on the wall. He went to get another extinguisher in another room when the whole room bu rst into flames behind him. Employee #1 was burned over 10 percent of his body a nd hospitalized.
