An employee suffered an amputated right pinky fingertip when a 30-inch diameter metal cut-out section struck it. The employee had cut the section from a 13-foot diameter heat exchanger being fabricated and started to grind the cut-out area inside the cylinder. The vibrations from the grinder caused the metal cut-out section to slide approximately 12 inches, striking his finger. The employee was hospitalized.
