Final narrative
An employee was working on the monkey board on an oil rig. There was a high-pressure gas kick (air pocket of gas) during drilling, and the force of the sudden explosion sent the employee flying upward. The employee's back struck the guard rail on the derrick board and was fractured, requiring surgery.
