An employee was using a backhoe to move dirt from the material holding area to a low spot where dirt is discarded for backfill. While the employee was moving the dirt, the soil collapsed under the weight of the loader, causing it to slide down an embankment before overturning. Upon overturning, the employee fell from the seat and landed on his left side, fracturing his pelvis.
