Two employees were putting a down joint of pipe on the back of a fracturing pump unit for mobilization. The down joint was to be placed between the ladder and the step handle. One employee's right index finger was caught between the joint of pipe and trailer deck of the unit. The finger was injured and was surgically amputated.
