An employee was starting a new take-up reel on a cable line. The second wrap of cable overlapped the first (starting) wrap. The employee used a rubber mallet to move the first wrap toward the flange. When the first wrap moved, the second wrap came down and pinned his left thumb against the reel drum. He suffered an amputation to the thumb.
