A temporary employee had just transferred trash and recyclables into a metal trash bin and tried to push the bin into the arms of a trash compactor. The employee pushed the start button and held it down to raise the bin and empty the trash into the compactor, but when the compactor was at its furthest point, he noticed that trash was dangling down. He had reached into the bin to pull out the trash when the bin slid the rest of the way down the compactor arms and caught his fingers against the compactor. The last joints of his middle and index fingers were amputated.
