An employee was rigging a vessel with a chain so it could be moved by a crane. The crane hook began to move up, with the employee guiding the chain up to the point it would catch tension. His thumb was caught and crushed between the rigging and the vessel. The thumb was medically amputated from the first knuckle to the nail.
