Final narrative
An employee was using a plasma cutter to cut a hole in a 55-gallon paint drum, using a circular steel plate as a guide. As he pierced the lid of the drum, pressure ejected the lid and the steel plate upwards. The lid struck the employee's left arm and hand. He suffered acute carpal tunnel syndrome in the arm, compartment syndrome in the hand, and fractures to the arm, wrist, three metacarpal bones, and the thumb.
