Final narrative
An employee was emptying a trash hopper into the main dumpster. After unlatching the mechanism to dump the hopper, he lost his footing. While trying to stabilize himself, his left middle finger was caught between the forklift forks and the base of the hopper. As the hopper rolled back, the employee's finger was crushed and fractured. The employee's finger was amputated at the distal interphalangeal joint.
