On August 24, 2023, Coastal Marine Construction, LLC was performing tasks that involved installing a waling system. An employee had surfaced from the ocean after performing his duties as a diver. He began helping to adjust the company s dive operations vessel to extend his radius underwater, as the umbilical only allows the diver to travel 300 feet. While helping to move the vessel, he slipped off the east side of the fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) wale and landed on the dive vessel on his left ribcage. Within minutes, he started finding it harder to breathe and was taken to the hospital with bruising on his ribcage.
