Final narrative
An employee was unloading trusses from a barge. He was alongside the bridge span, steering the rear end as it crossed the bridge from the barge to the transfer span. He bent to get a better view of the dollies when the restraints on the supporting beam at the read end of the span failed. The transverse beam rolled forward and the load chain or the chain binder struck the employee. He sustained fractures to an eye socket and a broken nose, as well as lacerations to the head, and bruises.
