An employee was performing maintenance on the refrigeration unit of a truck. As they were walking up a platform ladder, the ladder fell backward and the employee reached up with his right hand to hold onto something. The employee contacted the refrigeration motor belt, which pulled his index and middle fingers into a pulley, resulting in amputations to the first knuckle.
