An employee was putting a fiber drum into an elevator when the drum became jammed. As he worked to release the drum, it shifted and its stored tension moved it upward, catching his left thumb as he pulled back between the top of the drum and the frame of the elevator opening. The employee suffered a partial fingertip amputation.
