Final narrative
An employee was assisting with the production of parts on a steam power hammer. A piece of steel shim stock (approximately 12"x3"x1/4") ejected off the hammer and struck the employee's left leg. The employee sustained a severe laceration just below the knee and fractures to the tibia and fibula. The employee was hospitalized.
