Employee was drawing blood off of patient 's IV to send to lab.

After drawing the patient 's blood from IV with a blunt needle employee inserted the blood into the tube safely and was returning the blunt needle into the red cover for the needle. The needle slipped off the side of the cover and punctured through glove and skin on left hand 2nd digit posterior medial side. The finger was bleeding employee washed hands 3 times and held paper towel to stop the bleeding.
