On [REDACTED] 24 custodian was working on his assigned route which is located on the 1st floor of the facility. As he was sweeping the trash he noticed a small parcel mixed in with the trash. He bent down to retrieve the parcel he rose and struck his head on the emergency stop portion of the SIPS machine that 's connected to the mail shoot. He struck the left side of his head. It seemed to leave a small scratch and produced a small swelling. He did place ice on the injured portion of his head. That he retrieved from the cafeteria which is located on the second floor.
