Assisting hand case in OR
What happened
There was a double ended K wire on the field and we had used one end of the k wire to scrape out a drill bit. The dirty end of the k wire was put into the sharps cushion and the clean end was sticking out. I grazed my finger over that clean part of the k wire and saw a hole in top glove. After taking off top glove I saw a hole in under glove and I took that one off and saw I had gotten stuck. I scrubbed out and we had the contaminated k wire removed from the field and disposed of in the sharps container. I washed my hands with soap and water and the bleeding stopped. I scrubbed back in and finished the case. The patient was never touched with the contaminated k wire. K wire was Microair brand.
